What is a urinary tract infection?
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is caused when bacteria, most often E. coli, enter the urethra and cause infection. UTIs typically start in your lower urinary tract, but can travel to your bladder and even kidneys. Both men and women can get urinary tract infections, but, thanks to anatomy, they are much more common in women.** And unfortunately, some UTI sufferers could experience recurrent urinary tract infections.
If you don’t treat a UTI, the infection can lead to a more serious condition. That's why it so important to see your doctor as soon as you experience signs of a UTI like pain, burning, and urgency. A doctor can confirm a UTI diagnosis and provide an antibiotic to treat a UTI.
