What is a urinary tract infection?

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is caused when bacteria, most often E. coli, enter the urethra and cause infection. UTIs typically start in your lower urinary tract, but can travel to your bladder and even kidneys. Both men and women can get urinary tract infections, but, thanks to anatomy, they are much more common in women.** And unfortunately, some UTI sufferers could experience recurrent urinary tract infections.
