There are two individually-sealed pH test strips, and two individually-sealed sterile swabs in the AZO Vaginal pH Test, enough to complete two pH tests. Do not open pouch until ready to use. Sealed test kit components should be stored at room temperature 15° – 30°C (59°– 86°F), Kept out of direct sunlight, kept away from any place that contains moisture or humidity, and do not use after expiration date.

The pH test is simple and easy to use. After using the sterile swab to collect a sample of vaginal secretion, and dragging the swab across the test area of the test strip, you will get an accurate reading in 30 seconds. Use the color chart on the test strip pouch to indicate your vaginal pH.

These are detailed pH test instructions inside the package to assist you in performing the test easily and accurately. The AZO Vaginal pH Test is packaged with 2 test strips and 2 sterile cotton swabs. The cotton swab is inserted into the vagina to moisten the cotton swab. It is then applied onto the pH test pad on the test strip. A pH number is determined by comparing the color of the pH test pad to the color chart. A normal vaginal pH of 4.5 is important for your health. A pH of 5.0 or higher usually requires attention from your healthcare provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

pH is a way to describe how acidic a substance is. It is given by a number on a scale of 1-14. The lower the number, the more acidic the substance is.  Normal vaginal pH is between 3.8 and 4.5

You should check your vaginal pH when you experience any unusual vaginal symptoms.  These can include vaginal itching or burning, a musty or fishy odor, or an unusual discharge.  Testing with the AZO Vaginal pH Test will accurately measure your vaginal pH, and will help you determine if your symptoms are likely due to a yeast infection or a bacterial infection like Bacterial Vaginosis or Trichomoniasis, which require a healthcare professional to treat.   Always refer to  your Healthcare Professional about any medical questions you have as they know your health history best.

A yeast infection, also called Vaginal Candidiasis, is an infection caused by a yeast (a type of fungus) called Candida.  Candida normally lives inside the body (in places such as the mouth, throat, gut, and vagina) without causing any problems. Sometimes, however, Candida can multiply and cause an infection if the environment inside the vagina changes in a way that encourages its growth.

75% of women report having a yeast infection during sometime in their lives.  In the United States, it is the second most common type of vaginal infection after bacterial vaginal infections. An estimated 1.4 million outpatient visits for vaginal candidiasis occur annually in the United States.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a condition that happens when there is too much of certain bacteria in the vagina. This changes the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina.  BV is linked to an imbalance of “good” and “harmful” bacteria that are normally found in a woman’s vagina.  BV is typically indicated when vaginal pH is higher than normal, above 4.5, and requires attention from a healthcare professional.

Trichomoniasis (or “trich”) is a very common sexually transmitted disease (STD). It is caused by infection with a protozoan parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. Trichomoniasis is the most common curable STD. In the United States, CDC estimates that there were more than two million trichomoniasis infections in 2018.

Yes. The AZO vaginal pH test is nearly the same as those used by doctors.  Your healthcare provider  can provide a more thorough assessment of your vaginal status by incorporating your medical history and  physical exam.

If you are pregnant, consult your healthcare provider before use, as interpreting test results during pregnancy requires professional knowledge.
